Which phones are eSIM compatible?

Apple iPhone

• iPhone XS, XS Max, XR (2018)
• iPhone 11 series
• iPhone SE (2020 and 2022)
• iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 series — all models
• US iPhone 14 and later are eSIM-only (no SIM tray) and work perfectly with travel eSIMs
• Not supported: iPhones sold in mainland China (dual physical SIM instead); Hong Kong and Macau models vary

Samsung Galaxy

• Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 series (not the US carrier-locked S20 FE)
• Galaxy Note 20 series
• Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold — all generations
• Galaxy A54, A55, A56 (region dependent)
• Not supported: most Galaxy A-series before 2023 and the A1x/A2x budget lines

Google Pixel

• Pixel 3 and 3 XL (not the Japanese or some carrier variants)
• Pixel 3a and later — every model including the a-series and Fold
• Pixel 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 series

Tablets and laptops

iPad Pro (2018+), iPad Air (2019+), iPad mini (2019+), iPad (7th gen+), Surface Pro X/9 5G and many Windows laptops with 5G modems support eSIM data plans. A travel eSIM works on them exactly as on a phone.

Carrier lock — the hidden blocker

A compatible phone that is still locked to a carrier will refuse to add another operator’s profile. On iPhone check Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. On Android, ask your carrier. Unlocking is free once a contract is paid off in most countries.
